Washington, D.C., (April 23, 2020) – Feed the Fight, a locally organized, community-based effort supporting local restaurants, healthcare workers and first responders on the frontlines of the COVID-19 crisis, is pleased to announce that NextEra Energy, Inc., is gifting the organization up to $45,000 in donations and matching to help fulfill its mission. With the help of local restaurant partners, Feed the Fight has purchased over 14,800 meals for those on the frontlines of the healthcare crisis in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) region.

“This incredibly generous donation and matching gift program by NextEra Energy will go a long way in uplifting local restaurants who will benefit from an additional 4,500 meals purchased. NextEra’s contribution to Feed the Fight will help provide local restaurant owners with the ability to retain as many employees as possible and recognize essential workers for their commitment to caring for, supporting and protecting the Washington, D.C. region during the COVID-19 crisis,” said Elena Tompkins, founder of Feed the Fight.

NextEra Energy will generously donate $30,000 and make an additional gift up to $15,000 in matching for contributions that Feed the Fight receives starting at 8 a.m. Eastern time on Friday, April 24. This will help the organization deliver an additional 4,500 meals during the next week.

The funds NextEra Energy is donating to Feed the Fight are part of more than $4 million of COVID-19 emergency assistance from the NextEra Energy family of companies and their employees for partner organizations on the frontlines of the COVID-19 crisis across the country.
