WASHINGTON, DC (April 10, 2020) – Feed the Fight announced today that a matching gift program by the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Washington, DC raised more than $10,000 in individual donations within 24 hours. Bringing their total overall contribution to $20,000, the UAE Embassy’s gift match follows a $10,000 donation the embassy made to Feed the Fight earlier this month.
“Feed the Fight is pleased to partner with Yousef and Abeer Al Otaiba, UAE Ambassador to the United States, and the Embassy here in Washington, DC in our effort to provide needed support to local restaurants, health care workers and first responders during the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Elena Tompkins, founder of Feed the Fight. “With a dual purpose of driving business for local restaurants struggling to keep their doors open and showing appreciation for the health care workers and first responders who put their lives at risk every day, Feed the Fight is committed to having a positive impact on the Washington metro area in the midst of this crisis.”
Donations from the UAE Embassy, and the individual donors who received the dollar for dollar match totaling $10,000, will be used to provide meals to first responders and health care workers on the frontlines of the COVID-19 “coronavirus” pandemic response. Every dollar donated to Feed the Fight goes back into the community and is used to purchase meals from local restaurants that will be delivered to health care workers, police officers, firefighters and EMS personnel working to care for, protect and support communities across the District of Columbia, Virginia and Maryland (DMV).
Feed the Fight, established in March 2020, is a community effort working alongside local restaurants to provide takeout meals to feed health care workers in facilities across the DMV area. With the help of our local restaurant partners, Feed the Fight has purchased nearly 11,000 meals for health care workers and first responders on the frontlines of this global health care crisis.
